I was at a Menard's store yesterday and I was looking at all the the fixed power tools they had there. My question is: Is it safe to plug a power tool such as a belt sander, miter saw, or table saw into a standard garage wall outlet? I know that If a tool is not getting enough power it can damage the tool and is dangerous. But say I only had one plug in at a time when it was in use, is that safe for me and the tool?

Yes it is. The minimum that a circuit can handle is 15 amps (many are wired for 20 amps), and nothing Menard’s carries has a motor that draws more than 15A. Belt sanders run in the neighborhood of 6-9A, miter saw 12-15A, table saw 13-15A. You’ll be fine. Don’t use them on an extension cord longer than 25 feet, and use a 12 ga. cord. Hope this helps.
Yes it is safe, The only issue you may run into is that alot of garage outlets are on the same circuit as the bathrooms or outside plugs, these areas are on a GFI breaker or ground fault interuptor that is designed to trip at a lower ampherege so if you have problems with the circuit tripping you may run the properly sized extension cord from inside the home.
I have been using power tools for years and a standard wall outlet is all I ever had available to me. I guess you could use a generator but I have not had any trouble. Most wall outlets will deliver 15 amps or so and few tools use that much. The only things to watch are trying to run more than one tool at a time and using a long extension cord that is too thin. The voltage drop in a long cord could cause the tool to not run properly.
