www.ericthecarguy.com I've been asked about a power steering rack video for some time and the opportunity finally presented itself the other week. This one ended up being kind of long so I split it up into 2 parts but I will be posting the full video after I get the second part up for those of you that can watch it all the way through. Wouldnt it have been easier to loosen the enginemountscrews and lift the engine alittle bit?
Main reason why Id never buy Japanese. RUST!
@lamilicia Normally you see leaks particularly around the area of the bellows. Sometimes like on this truck however you will have a loss of power steering.
Hello there Erick . when or how do you know the power steering rack and pinion has to be replace????
thank you
@TheEsevee Pretty much the same way I show in part 2 of this series. Good luck.
Ericthecarguy any advice on how to bleed power steering system on a 92 camry.. The reservoir has 2hoses going to the pump & 2 hoses returning..
@EricTheCarGuy Thanks Eric . I ended up buying the whole inner tie rod with the bushing already installed .
@13FravelJ Normally by disconnecting the return line and running it into a container as you run the engine, once it’s empty replace the line and refill.
@TheMoviedude2011 Honestly I don’t know, you might try a different parts supplier. Good luck.
Hey Eric, How do you change your power steering fluid?
Hey Eric I just bought a inner tie rod bushing kit for my 1996 grand am 3.1L 3100 and the bushing fits driver side and not passenger side. Would you know what vehicle would have a smaller bushing ? Auto parts stores will only look up make and model and year . I’m stumped . I might just have to buy a whole tie rod . Someone switched it before I got the car .Thanks I love your videos . Very educational . I have learned a lot from them .
@MrDJskillage I honestly don’t know the answer to that as it’s never come up. Try google it often works for me.
Hey Eric, I was hoping you could give me some ways to distinguish a Saginaw from a TRW type rack and pinion steering system. Thanks.
@Begbucks On some that’s not a bad idea.
new steering device??
This is why I’d much rather replace the car then the rack.
@360treflipskater360 I agree 100%, if it takes that much to do one on a proper rack I don’t think a tape measure and a piece of chalk are going to be any better.
@EricTheCarGuy i didnt know they were that tedious but still i think the alignment rack would have been easier
@Nando111982 You might start by flushing out the power steering system and putting some conditioner in there to see if that helps but in the end you might need to replace the rack. Make sure you use the correct fluid in there or damage to the system may result.
Eric, I have a 99 Camry thats steering just started getting stiff. While I’m driving it’s stiff but when I make a turn it frees up a bit and then back to tightening up again. Before this problem started, when I would turn the wheel, it would kinda make a low whining sound. Don’t know if it’s the rack, pump, belt or could it just be gummed up being that the fluid has never been changed? Fluid is really dark! I would appreciate any feedback! Thanks in advance..
@360treflipskater360 I don’t know if you’ve done BMW alignments but they have a pretty long list of requirements before you can even start an alignment on one of those cars, full fuel tank, calculated ballast in the drivers seat to simulate the drives weight, pretty involved.
@toyota4life94 not the newer one’s have you seen them? bolts, splash clips, and there is no way to remove the splash shield from what I saw, it just hangs there now
omg speaking of alignments! at the shop i work at we had this bmw club come work on their own cars in out shop for a day and i was talking to this guy with a level and a yardstick in his hand and he said he just did an alignment on his car so i responded with uhhh sir you know we have an alignment machine right over there which would be much more accurate and alot easier? he just stared at me with amazed hahaha priceless
@EricTheCarGuy ill def check that pontiac subframe video out thanks
@MustangFan424 I didnt hear anything at that time but I did hear something at 8:48 that was the steering rack squeaking.
